How many followers on TikTok to get paid: 1,000 to 10,000, but video length matters more

By Antonin Girardeau, founder of Prooven · Published October 19, 2026 · 8 min read

You need 10,000 followers to get paid per view on TikTok, plus 100,000 views in the last 30 days and to be 18 or older (Creator Rewards Program, official page updated September 11, 2026). Other income has a lower bar: 1,000 followers for TikTok Shop affiliate in the US and for brand projects on TikTok One, and none at all for a deal you negotiate yourself. Followers get you in. Your videos decide what you earn.

In short
  • Creator Rewards: 10,000 followers and 100,000 views in 30 days, and only videos longer than 1 minute get paid.
  • TikTok Shop affiliate in the US opens at 1,000 followers, with a 30-day trial period below 5,000.
  • Among the viral videos I analyzed, 29% from accounts under 100K followers run longer than a minute. Above 1M followers, it's 50%.
  • Accounts with 10K to 50K followers get 20 shares per 1,000 views on their viral videos. Accounts over 1M get 12.

The follower count for each way to get paid

Only one TikTok payout is tied to 10,000 followers. Everything else starts lower, and some of it has no minimum. Here is what TikTok's own pages say as of October 2026, with a note wherever TikTok publishes no number.

10,000 followers is only the first gate

Hitting 10K doesn't put a cent in your account by itself. TikTok also wants 100,000 views in the last 30 days, at the same time. An account with 40,000 followers and 60,000 views this month still can't join.

Once you're in, the real filter kicks in. TikTok pays only for videos longer than 1 minute that reach at least 1,000 views in the For You feed. A 45-second video with 2 million views earns $0 from the program. Only "qualified" views count: watched for 5 seconds or more, from one of 8 eligible countries, the US included. The full rules and RPM numbers are in the guide to the TikTok Creator Rewards Program.

What pays before you hit 10K

Under 10,000 followers, your money comes from brands and sales, not from TikTok's view payouts. TikTok Shop is the fastest door in the US: at 1,000 followers you can apply as an affiliate and earn a commission set by the seller on each sale. Below 5,000, TikTok puts you in a 30-day pilot with a daily posting cap and access to fewer sellers.

Brand deals have no floor. TikTok's Creator Academy says it plainly in its September 2026 page on partnerships: for brand collabs, "it doesn't matter how many followers you have." Small accounts do go viral, too. I covered that in the piece on why a TikTok gets 0 views, where accounts with a few thousand followers passed a million views.

Small accounts post fewer videos that qualify

Under 100,000 followers, fewer than one viral video in three runs over a minute. For nearly 390 viral videos I analyzed one by one, I know the follower count of the account behind them. Under 100K, 29% are longer than 60 seconds. From 100K to 1M, 45%. Over 1M, half of them.

Source: nearly 390 viral videos analyzed one by one by Prooven where the account's follower count is known (2023 to July 2026, mostly Instagram). Only videos over 1 minute earn from TikTok's Creator Rewards Program.

English-language videos show the same split: 27% over a minute under 100K followers, 45% above. So most small creators reach the 10K gate with a back catalog of 20- to 40-second clips, and those clips will never earn a Creator Rewards payout. The bottleneck sits after the follower threshold.

What one viral video earns, by account size

A viral video over 1 minute would earn roughly $185 to $750 from Creator Rewards with a US audience, depending on account size. The math uses the typical viral video's views in each group, 40% qualified views, and $0.50 to $1.00 per 1,000 qualified views, the range US creators reported in 2026.

50K to 500K0.97M$193 to $387

Over 1M1.88M$376 to $751

US dollars, per video. Views: viral videos over 1 minute analyzed by Prooven (2023 to July 2026, mostly Instagram). Rates: dated creator reports on r/TikTokMonetizing (2026), not an official TikTok number.

Compare that with brand money. Influencer Marketing Hub puts a micro creator's TikTok video (10K to 100K followers) at $200 to $800 (July 2026). In the US, one viral long video and one small sponsorship land in the same range. The difference: a brand deal pays whether the video takes off or not. Run your own numbers in the TikTok money calculator, and remember rates swing. One US creator went from $1.00 to $0.03 per 1,000 for a year before additional rewards brought it back in August 2026.

The number brands care about more than followers

Brands pay for reactions, and smaller accounts get more of them per view. Viral videos from accounts with 10K to 50K followers average 20 shares per 1,000 views in my data. Accounts over 1M get 12. Engagement rate barely moves: 6.6% versus 6.5%.

Viral videos from 10K to 50K follower accounts get shared 1.7 times as often as those from accounts over 1M (20 versus 12 shares per 1,000 views).

A share means someone sent your video to a friend, which is close to a recommendation. Check your own numbers with the engagement rate calculator and bring your share rate to every pitch. It's the stat that lets a 20K account compete with one ten times bigger.

Two small accounts, two very different paydays

Corey Rufo's account had 20,670 followers when I logged it. A video from December 22, 2025, a 70-second talking-head pitch on investing in AI, reached 6.8 million views on Instagram. Posted on TikTok with a US audience, a video like that clears the 1-minute rule and would land somewhere around $1,400 to $2,700 at the rates above.

The account coachwillis_ had 44,953 followers. Its November 25, 2025 video on breathing during squats got 11.9 million views, almost twice as many. It runs 51 seconds. On Creator Rewards, that's $0. Its hook still shows what holds attention:

"Did you know if you take the heaviest plate in the gym, an unopened Coke can, it won't crush it?"
coachwillis_, Reel posted November 25, 2025, 11.9 million views on Instagram.

Add one more step to a video like this (a common mistake, then the fix) and it crosses the minute without padding.

My take

Stop tracking followers and start tracking how many of your videos run past a minute. The 10K gate is the easy part. My data shows small accounts lean short (29% long videos under 100K followers), so they hit the threshold with nothing that pays. Start testing 65- to 90-second videos now, while the stakes are low. In the US, apply to TikTok Shop at 1,000 followers too; it's the one program that pays for short videos. The limit of this take: my videos come mostly from Instagram, and follower counts were logged after each video went viral, not before.

Questions people also ask

How much does TikTok pay for 10,000 followers?

Nothing on its own. TikTok pays for qualified views on videos over 1 minute, not for followers. An account at 10K that gets 100,000 qualified views in a month would earn about $50 to $100 at 2026 US rates. The bigger picture is in the guide on how to make money on TikTok.

Can you buy followers to reach 10,000?

It won't help you earn. Fake followers don't watch, so you still miss the 100,000 views, and TikTok removes fake engagement and can restrict the account under its Community Guidelines.

Do LIVE gifts need 1,000 followers?

TikTok's help pages only state the age rule: 18+ to earn money from gifts. Most guides say 1,000 followers to go LIVE, and some regions report lower bars. Check the LIVE button in your app before you plan around a number.
